Liposuction (Liposculpture)

Liposuction, performed by a Specialist Cosmetic Surgeon, is a safe procedure that delivers natural results. Dr Weiss, specialist in cosmetic body surgery in Paris (Hauts-de-Seine), invites you to discover the answers to the main questions about liposuction.

Who is liposuction for?

Liposuction was developed by G. Illouz (French surgeon) in 1981. This technique involves the introduction of blunt cannulas through small skin incisions to locally remove excess deep fat. It is a well-established surgery with safe and well-mastered techniques.

Liposuction permanently eliminates localised fatty overload areas that spoil your silhouette.

It is not a treatment for overweight or obesity. It cannot substitute for sports practice, good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

Liposuction changes body volume and proportions to make it harmonious.

Liposuction is the most performed procedure in cosmetic surgery worldwide.

Who benefits from liposuction?

If you find a discrepancy between your body image and reality, if you have trouble dressing, if your inner thighs touch, and you have disproportionate saddlebags, if despite near-normal weight and sports practice you cannot lose certain localised fat surplus, then liposuction may be the solution.

There is no age limit for liposuction, although the younger the patient, the more elastic the skin and the better the retraction result.

What solution for changing body shape?

Fat cells cannot multiply (they have no nucleus). The reduction in their number is always permanent. By removing a portion of cells from localised fat deposits, the silhouette will be permanently changed.

Liposuction is intended for people with stable weight, without generalised fat excess. Compression garment wear is required for one month day and night.

Normal activity can generally be resumed after two or three days. Post-operative scars are insignificant.

Liposuction does not resolve excess skin. However, superficial liposuction through subcutaneous scarring can allow significant skin retraction.

The effects of liposuction

The effects of liposuction are spectacular and permanently change your body shape.

Surgical procedures, unlike aesthetic medicine treatments, are stable. If you change the body shape, it is forever.

Initial post-operative results will be visible after one month when swelling begins to subside; the definitive result is appreciated at 3 months.

Results are permanent and will persist throughout your life.

Conditions not treated by liposuction

  • Excess skin
  • Stretch marks
  • Cellulite (orange peel skin)

Liposuction by body area

The abdomen

Liposuction can remove very significant excess fat volume with good skin retraction.

The flanks and upper back

Thanks to the very significant skin thickness in this anatomical region, liposuction can remove a very significant volume of localised fat cells.

The hips (saddlebags)

This area allows very significant fat volume reduction: it is the area that changes young women's lives.

The inner thighs

This is the area where the skin envelope is very thin, hence the need for excellent practice and extensive experience from the surgeon.

The inner knees

This is an area where the skin is elastic and taut; liposuction permanently changes knee shape, making legs more streamlined.

The buttocks

Very controversial as it produces excess skin giving a "sagging buttocks" appearance. Dr Weiss's approach is to liposuction the flanks, inner thighs and hips to give the impression of much better formed, round, harmonious and proportioned buttocks.

The arms

Not always the ideal solution, to be used on a case-by-case basis. In general, with fat surplus on the inner arms, there is also marked skin excess which may be aggravated by fat volume reduction.

Liposuction: Approach

The procedure begins from the very first consultation, establishing mutual trust. Dr Weiss will answer all your questions precisely.

Dr Weiss will carry out a thorough examination, assessing the body as a whole, evaluating real localised fat excess, and skin quality and elasticity.

Dr Weiss will present his opinion and guide you towards the most satisfying procedures.

This often coincides with the anaesthetist visit. All documents will be completed and signed.

Practical information about liposuction

Few contraindications exist. Apart from poor general health or blood-related problems, rare contraindications will be explained by your surgeon.

Stop smoking one month before and after. No aspirin or NSAIDs for two weeks prior. It is also important to prepare adequately with iron supplements, given probable blood loss.
