The Abdomen

The abdomen is at the centre of our body.

A flat, well-defined, toned abdomen without excess fat is a desire for most of us.

The appearance of the abdomen depends on several factors including genetic inheritance, lifestyle, eating habits and hormonal changes modified during pregnancy and with age.

Concerns

Problems include abdominal fat surplus, abdominal skin excess (from significant weight fluctuations or pregnancy distension), or lack of skin elasticity which is often hereditary, with the appearance of stretch marks (collagen mesh fractures).

Solutions

For localised abdominal fat surplus, cosmetic surgery offers liposuction which has the advantage of being minimally traumatic and permanently changing the shape (fat cells cannot multiply).

For skin distension, depending on the type, we offer abdominoplasty with umbilical transposition, or without transposition (mini abdominoplasty), or sometimes lowering of the umbilical insertion for optimal results.

If needed, abdominal muscle tightening (muscle plication) can be performed simultaneously.

For poor skin quality, mostly of genetic origin, as well as stretch marks, there is no real treatment. The only method to reduce the stretch mark-covered area is skin excision during various types of abdominoplasty.
