The breasts are the primary symbol of femininity in women. They symbolise beauty, sexuality, maternity and feminine power. In the collective imagination, breasts play a very important role. For a woman to feel feminine, she must appreciate her breasts. Beyond the harmony of volume and shape in relation to the female body, there is a subjective and cultural perception. Depending on ethnicity and the ideal body image felt by the woman, there is room for all breast volumes and shapes that will satisfy women. In reality, there is no "gold standard" and full acceptance of one's bust depends entirely on the self-satisfaction of the woman.
Breasts that are not well-liked are a source of very significant and debilitating complexes in a woman's daily and private life. Breasts have a very important impact on self-confidence in both professional and private life, with a major influence on sexuality. Every breast imperfection, even subjectively perceived, causes significant distress in a woman.
Breast concerns can be of different nature. Two main groups of imperfections can be distinguished:
These imperfections can be congenital in origin, relating to either breast volume or shape. During adult life, breasts change shape with age, after pregnancy, following weight fluctuations, and due to inevitable hormonal changes.
For breasts with insufficient volume, the best current technique is the placement of breast implants.
For breasts with excessive volume, Dr Weiss offers breast reduction which, in extreme cases, may sometimes be partially covered by the French social security system.
For breasts that have lost their volume, sagging breasts and post-pregnancy breasts ("mommy makeover"), Dr Weiss offers breast reshaping with repositioning of the gland and removal of excess skin tissue: the procedure is called mastopexy, or breast lift.
For breasts with genetic defects, sometimes covered by social security such as breast asymmetry or tuberous breasts, Dr Weiss adapts special techniques to restore the most natural appearance possible, to be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
In men with gynaecomastia, Dr Weiss offers excision of excess glandular tissue and possibly liposuction in cases of adipomastia.
Breast lipofilling (breast volume augmentation by injection of autologous fat) used alone is, in most cases, not sufficient.
