Cosmetic Surgery > Body Contouring > Thighs > Cruroplasty
The procedure is most often performed after significant weight loss and usually within the context of reconstructive surgery.
It can also address excess skin in this area due to ageing and skin laxity.
Excess skin may also appear following inner thigh liposuction, as skin retraction capacity varies from person to person and is unfortunately unpredictable.
The only solution to remove excess thigh skin is cruroplasty, also called "thigh lift".
For stable results, cruroplasty only removes excess skin but does not tighten skin in the long term, as taut skin does not remain permanently so.
For very moderate skin excess, liposuction with lipo-vibro-sculpture can provoke skin retraction to improve the inner thigh appearance.
This is bespoke surgery as the amount of skin to remove is assessed during the procedure.
The procedure involves excising excess skin from the inner thighs, moderate re-tensioning of remaining skin suspended to the adductor tubercle, skin closure and placement of compression garment.
Scars are most commonly located in the inguinal fold (groin), and more rarely in T-shape extending down three-quarters of the inner thigh.
Thigh lift is not a major procedure but given the scarring, it is rarely performed outside of very significant disfigurement and reconstructive surgery.
In rare cases where Dr Weiss performs a thigh lift, he first reduces the fat mass by liposuction, then performs the actual thigh lift in a second stage to assess the real amount of skin to remove.
