Genioplasty

Chin projection and shape can be corrected through various genioplasty techniques.

Objective

Genioplasty is chin surgery, a procedure aimed at changing chin projection and shape, particularly in the context of profiloplasty. It improves the profile by balancing chin projection in relation to the nose.

Process

The most important part of this process is correctly evaluating facial proportions and harmony. Dr Weiss will guide you and assess the real benefits of this type of procedure.

Solution

The 4 main types of genioplasty performed are:

  • Augmentation genioplasty to improve chin projection in cases of a receding chin,
  • Reduction genioplasty to reduce projection of an overly prominent chin ("witch chin"),
  • Chin reshaping when it is not square enough or too square,
  • Improvement of the submental angle in cases of "double chin".

Augmentation genioplasty, both in shape and projection, is now performed using highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid injections. These injections, performed in the medical office, have successfully replaced former implants that caused secondary bone resorption.

For patients who prefer a more lasting and natural method, Dr Weiss can propose fat transfer (lipofilling): this procedure requires operating room access, with a few hours of outpatient hospitalisation.

Dr Weiss most frequently combines this procedure with a complete profiloplasty, including nose surgery and lip volume enhancement (if needed), to achieve total facial harmony.
