Dr Weiss, specialist in cosmetic breast surgery in Paris (Hauts-de-Seine), invites you to discover the answers to the main questions about breast augmentation.

Definition

An essential part of a woman's identity is her bust. It combines sexuality, femininity and maternity.

It is essential to have the truly desired breast volume in harmony with one's body and subjective perception of beauty.

Who is breast augmentation for?

A bust that does not correspond to a woman's body image can be a source of significant complexes and obstacles in her private and professional life.

If your breasts have never naturally had the desired volume, or if you have lost this volume after weight loss following pregnancies or hormonal problems, breast augmentation surgery can address your concerns.

Good candidates for breast augmentation with implants:

  • imbalance between breasts that are too small and body image,
  • difficulty dressing due to the disproportion between breast volume and body,
  • constant use of bra padding,
  • loss of breast volume during your lifetime.

Dr Weiss, Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon specialising in breast implant placement in Paris, will guide you to find the best solution adapted to your needs. If you struggle psychologically and physically with your breast volume deficit, cosmetic surgery can help you.

What solution for increasing breast volume?

The only solution that truly meets the demand for moderate to significant breast volume increase is the placement of breast implants.

If your breast volume seems insufficient or the breast shape has become unsightly due to lack of volume, breast implants can help resolve this issue.

Breast augmentation enhances a bust subjectively deemed too small.

Breast implant placement addresses two main concerns: insufficient volume, i.e. breasts that are too small, or missing volume with excess skin, for example after pregnancy ("mommy makeover"), or after significant weight loss.

Principles of breast augmentation surgery

The surgery is very well established for this type of procedure.

Modern techniques allow for natural, harmonious and long-lasting results. Breast augmentation surgery is truly bespoke surgery, given the quantity of volumes and shapes of implants available.

Breast augmentation with implants involves placing silicone or saline implants to achieve the desired volume fill.

Dr Weiss always takes into account the patient's wishes but advises her to the best of his ability to achieve the most harmonious and natural result possible.

The essential goal is to achieve a result that allows the patient to harmonise her body with her body image.

The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia in a semi-seated position, to best appreciate the optimal shape to achieve.

There are 4 incision approaches for implant placement:

  • axillary approach,
  • inframammary approach,
  • trans-areolar approach,
  • peri-areolar approach.

Each of these approaches has advantages and disadvantages, and Dr Weiss will choose the best option for you during the consultation.

After breast implant placement, scarring remains minimal, especially with the peri-areolar incision where the scar can be tattooed to match the areola colour and become invisible.

The implant will be positioned either sub-muscularly or sub-glandularly; depending on your case, Dr Weiss will discuss the future positioning of your implants with you and together, you will make the best choice based on the result you desire.

Dr Weiss uses the Keller Funnel technique for implant insertion, a revolutionary technique that reduces the risks of damaging your implants and the risk of infection.

When the Pinch Test is less than 3cm, Dr Weiss systematically places the implants sub-muscularly. In this case, Dr Weiss exclusively uses the Dual Plane technique (upper part of the implant sub-muscular and the lower part sub-glandular) - the dual plane is the technique that allows for the most natural result. The Dual Plane technique combines the double advantages of retro-glandular and retro-muscular techniques, allowing the best and most precise control of implant position, breast shape and suppleness.

It is important to know that for very slim patients with very little fat coverage, the implant will always be palpable and felt through the skin.

Currently, textured implants, especially macro-textured ones including anatomical implants, no longer have CE marking as a precautionary measure.

See the recommendation from our professional societies here.

Dr Weiss does not place saline-filled implants as they do not ensure optimal aesthetic results. The use of hydrogel-filled implants is extremely rare.

The implants Dr Weiss uses are filled with cohesive silicone gel which, in the event of envelope rupture, does not leave the implant and always remains in place.

The breast implants used by Dr Weiss have the strictest CE and FDA certifications.

Breast augmentation with resorbable products such as Macrolane is prohibited in France.

In the case of a major imbalance between breast volume and skin envelope, it is possible to perform mastopexy, i.e. removal of excess skin combined with breast implant placement; this is a combined procedure that gives very good results without resorting to extreme breast augmentation which would not be harmonious.

In cases of significant asymmetry (sometimes due to congenital syndromes such as Poland syndrome), asymmetric placement of different sized implants may sometimes be necessary.

Breast implants present no danger for future pregnancies or breastfeeding.

They do not increase the risk of developing breast cancer.

Dr Weiss performs breast augmentation surgery from the age of 18.

Breast Augmentation: Approach

The procedure actually begins from the very first moments of the initial consultation. It starts with establishing mutual trust and a deep understanding of the surgical approach.

Cosmetic surgery is not only the art of operating, but also the art of listening and analysing wishes, in order to meet the patient's expectations and achieve an optimal, harmonious and natural result. In two words: "bespoke".

It is necessary for the surgeon to understand the request and thus create a balance between the body and its perception. It is essential to guide or sometimes even refuse the operation when the request seems unreasonable or the procedure risks not delivering the expected result.

Dr Weiss will precisely answer all your questions (hospital stay, procedure, anaesthesia, risks, post-operative follow-up, quote, etc.).

Dr Weiss will carry out a thorough anatomical examination. He will take into account your medical history and current medical condition. He will verify the feasibility of your request and, thanks to his artistic expertise, will guide you in your thinking about what results can be expected. By trying on the chosen implants in real fitting conditions, you will find the best compromise between your desire and the harmony of your silhouette integrated into your body image.

Dr Weiss will assess existing breast volume, the proportions of your breasts relative to your silhouette, skin quality (elasticity, tone, stretch marks), type of existing gland (fatty or glandular), and gland regularity.

Dr Weiss will present his opinion and discuss with you regarding your request. Guided by the most modern and safest technical knowledge, you will choose together the procedures that will give you the greatest satisfaction.

During this first consultation, photographs will be taken and you will be able to appreciate real results, as Dr Weiss will have you try on trial implants to assess harmony relative to your silhouette.

Dr Weiss will listen to your request, assess its feasibility and guide you so that you can achieve the optimal, natural and harmonious result; in short, so that your life changes and you are happy.

This often coincides with the anaesthetist visit. You will ask all your questions to Dr Weiss who will re-explain the planned surgical procedures and you will complete and sign all necessary documents for the procedure. You will proceed with pre-admission and room reservation.

During the 2nd consultation and re-fitting of implants, you will define the optimal volume and projection.

A mammogram is essential to avoid placing implants on an underlying condition.

Practical information about breast augmentation with implants

There are few contraindications to cosmetic surgery. Apart from poor general health or blood-related problems such as anaemia or incorrect haemostasis (heavier bleeding), there are rare contraindications which will be explained to you by your surgeon if necessary.

As with any surgical procedure, it is advisable to reduce smoking, ideally stopping completely one month before and one month after the procedure. Smoking reduces healing speed and can increase the risks of infection and necrosis of operated areas. It also increases the risk of respiratory tract infections. Aspirin and NSAIDs (anti-inflammatory drugs) are prohibited during the two weeks prior to the procedure, as these medications cause heavier bleeding.

The lifespan of implants is conservatively estimated at 10 years; this period varies considerably from one manufacturer to another (PIP affair), and does not always have a scientific basis.
