Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Ethnic rhinoplasty is designed for noses of African or Asian origin and requires very specific surgical expertise. Dr Weiss performs ethnic rhinoplasty.

This is a highly complex surgery combining elaborate techniques with frequent nostril reshaping. It primarily concerns patients with dark skin or of Asian origin.

African noses are characterised by wide nostrils, a flattened and broad nasal bridge, and a tip with a projection deficit. They are known to have genetically very thin cartilage and underdeveloped bones, which cannot transmit shape through the thick skin that covers them, hence their specific characteristics.

An ethnic nose that is too flat or too short requires specific surgical techniques. In this case, there is very often a significant gap between the patient's request and the actual technical possibilities.

Excessive reshaping of an ethnic nose can cause irreparable long-term complications. Thick skin does not allow very significant modification due to its extremely weak retractile potential. Thick skin will tend to hide rather than transmit the modifications made.
