The eyes are the first thing people notice about a face. When the brows begin to droop and the temples hollow out, the entire face takes on a tired, sad or even stern appearance that does not reflect how you truly feel. The temporal lift is a targeted procedure that specifically corrects these signs of ageing, restoring openness and freshness to the eye area.
The temporal lift is a surgical procedure that acts on the temple region and the tail of the brow. Its primary objective is to elevate drooping brows and restore volume to the temporal area, giving the eyes a refreshed, open appearance.
The incision is placed within the scalp at the temple, making it completely invisible once healed. Through this discreet access point, the surgeon lifts the sagging tissues and secures them in their rejuvenated position. The procedure typically takes between 1 and 2 hours and can be performed under local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthesia.
Brow ptosis is a gradual phenomenon linked to ageing. Several factors contribute to this descent:
The result is a gaze that appears heavy, closed, and often older than the rest of the face. Some patients also report visual discomfort, as the skin of the drooping brow encroaches upon the upper eyelid.
The forehead lift was long considered the reference technique for raising the brows. It acted on the entire forehead, lifting the brows globally. However, this procedure has now been largely replaced by less invasive alternatives.
For horizontal forehead lines, Botox now offers an effective, reversible, non-surgical treatment. The traditional forehead lift is therefore performed less and less frequently for this indication.
The temporal lift represents the modern alternative for brow ptosis. More targeted than the forehead lift, it acts precisely where ageing is most visible: the tail of the brow and the temporal region. Its result is more natural because it avoids the excessive elevation of the inner brow that could produce a surprised expression with older techniques.
The temporal lift and blepharoplasty are two complementary procedures that together achieve a complete rejuvenation of the eye area.
Blepharoplasty treats the eyelids themselves: excess skin on the upper eyelids, under-eye bags and prominent dark circles. The temporal lift, meanwhile, works above: it elevates the brows and tightens the temporal region. Combining both procedures produces a harmonious result in which every element of the eye area is addressed cohesively.
It is not uncommon for a patient consulting for blepharoplasty to be recommended an additional temporal lift: when the brow has drooped, simply removing excess eyelid skin is not enough. Dr Weiss systematically assesses brow position during any consultation for eye-area surgery.
As part of Complete Facial Rejuvenation, the temporal lift can be combined with a cervico-facial facelift during the same operative session. This combination allows simultaneous treatment of the upper third of the face (brows, temples) and the lower third (jawline, jowls, neck).
The result is a comprehensive, harmonious rejuvenation with no mismatch between treated and untreated zones. This is the very essence of Dr Weiss's bespoke approach: tailoring the combination of techniques to each face for a natural, balanced result.
The temporal lift is a relatively light procedure. Post-operative swelling concentrates around the eyes and temples and resolves within 7 to 10 days. Bruising is generally moderate and can be easily concealed with light make-up.
Social activities can typically be resumed after 10 to 15 days. Sutures are removed between days 7 and 10. The final result can be fully appreciated after 2 to 3 months, once the tissues have completely stabilised.
The result is long-lasting and natural. The brow regains a harmonious position, the eyes open up, and the face loses the tired look that prompted the consultation. Dr Weiss always ensures a measured result: "a little less is far better than overdoing it". A subtly repositioned brow looks natural; an over-elevated brow appears artificial.
If your eye area concerns you, Dr Weiss can precisely evaluate the cause of that fatigued appearance: brow ptosis, excess eyelid skin, temporal volume loss, or a combination of these factors. The consultation allows the most suitable strategy to be defined, whether a temporal lift alone, a combination with blepharoplasty, or a more comprehensive rejuvenation plan. Dr Weiss has trained internationally and regularly welcomes patients travelling to Paris from around the world.
