A serene and stress-free environment can only help you recover better. Also, keep everyday items that you usually store up high within easy reach, as you will probably not be able to raise your arms above your head.
Consider stocking your bedside table with useful items such as lip balm, bottled water, tissues and baby wipes (handy while you wait to be able to shower again). Keep your mobile phone within reach at all times.
It is advisable to maintain a 45-degree posture to limit swelling and bruising. If you do not feel like arranging your own pillows to achieve this angle, there are wedge-shaped pillows specially designed for this purpose. Also, do not hesitate to place additional pillows on each side for greater stability.
This herbal remedy is effective at relieving swelling and bruising. It is recommended to take it two weeks before and after the procedure. However, check with your surgeon that it is safe for you.
When you are once again allowed to shower (usually the day after the procedure), a simple gentle, hypoallergenic shower gel will suffice. However, a lotion is more than welcome after showering, as there is nothing better for hydrating your skin, which may be dried out after the procedure.
Driving or walking the dog are among the activities that will be impossible the day after your procedure. Make sure someone can take over for your children and pets.
Obviously, you will not want to spend hours cooking. So stock up on easy-to-prepare meals, or freeze your favourite recipes in advance.
Your doctor will provide you with a specially adapted bra (soft, breathable and easy to remove) for the first few weeks after your procedure. You will then move on to a wireless sports bra (make sure to choose a front-opening style).
Applying an ice pack directly after the procedure also helps to limit swelling and pain. For about three days following the procedure, they will be very useful: 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off.
When you wake up, pulling a T-shirt over your head will be out of the question. It is therefore important to arrive at surgery wearing clothes with buttons or a front zip that you can easily open. You may also be tired, so try to bring your most comfortable clothing.
